Ghanaische Mission

Foundation:
The Ghana Catholic Mission Hamburg was founded in September, 1982, under the initiative of the current Bishop of Osnabrück.

Church Service:
There is a regular church service at the Sankt Sophien Catholic Diocese, Weidestrasse 53, 22083 Hamburg -Barmbek, every Sunday, beginning at 12:30 in the afternoon till 15:00 o’clock. The service is held in a typical Ghanaian style of worship, but within the context of Catholic liturgy.

Aims and Objectives:
The major aims and objectives of the church are the following:
Bring all Ghanaians in and around Hamburg together, to maintain the Catholic faith.
Providing food and shelter for the needy and the sick in Ghana.
Introduction and Integration of the Ghanaian culture to the Germans. This is a step to bridge the people and culture of nations that have little knowledge of the existence of each other for the past years despite their common faith in Christ.

Spiritual Guidance:
Rev. Fr. Rakers had been in Ghana for over 20 years after which he took the spiritual guidance in the community as his personal duty and did a great job to sustain a common faith within the GCM. He was succeeded by Rev. Fr. Speer. Rev. Fr. Robert Kwarteng from Ghana also came to succeed Fr. Speer and was followed by Rev. Fr. Willie. GCM has been for several years under the pastoral care of P. Anthony Amoako-Attah OP, followed by P. Frederick Tettey who is equally doing a great job as his predecessors.

Achievements:
The yields of the monthly dues, the yearly harvest and the donations of our beneficiaries (Companies, Organisations, Churches and hospitals) in the form of medicines and other hospital facilities, GCM Hamburg has been able to raise the following in Ghana.

• Provided hospital facilities to many hospitals in Ghana.
• Built a multi purpose building in Kumasi, to provide a place for community gathering and school for the needy.
• We have not only taken part but also contributed greatly in many international activities such as music festivals and trade fairs.
• Every year, GCM Hamburg go for excursion with the whole congregation to maintain the love and unity of the fellow Ghanaians.

Societies

There are many societies within the Ghana Catholic Mission, Hamburg. Almost every member of the church is registered to one or more societies. This is another way of keeping track of the members of the church. Each society plays a major role in the church to maintain the faith of thier members and the growth of the catholic church.
